Project: Early Works

The Early Works phase is progressing for the Guinea Alumina Project. During this phase GAC is progressing long-lead items in preparation for a fast ramp up in construction following project approval.

Early works activities commenced / completed to date include:

  • Earthworks and drainage at the refinery site
  • Construction of the Kamsar Container Quay
  • Piling test work and production piling
  • Refinery fencing completion
  • Rail spur construction
  • Completion of Boké road bridge and handover to the Government of Guinea
  • Construction of the first stage construction accommodation camp
  • Geotechnical investigations for the freshwater dam and port
  • Engineering for the port and refinery facilities
  • Geotechnical analysis of the port platform and the freshwater dam site
  • Logistics plans and studies
  • Baseline environmental monitoring
  • Establishment of an Early Works Construction Camp

Community based health, safety, environment, and capacity building activities during Early Works include:

  • Community infrastructure development including development of wells, health posts, and schools
  • Mentoring and development of local Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs)
  • Baseline environmental monitoring
  • Support for agricultural and farming programs aimed at improving practices
  • Upgrade of facilities and health and safety training of teachers at the Boké Centre de Formation Professionelle – a local technical training college

Early Works activities will transition into the Construction / Project Execution Phase upon Notice To Proceed.
